The Coast Federation of Classified Employees
(CFCE), AFT Local 4794, understands
that the Coast Community College District has received an unsolicited land development proposal from Costco and the City of Huntington Beach. CFCE also understands that the Board of Trustees is studying the merits of the proposal and gathering information from various district,
campus, and local constituencies.
To this end, a survey was emailed on November 5th to all classified staff working at Golden West College, soliciting
their opinions regarding the Costco proposal. The survey contained thirteen multiple-choice questions and an area for extended written comments. Sixty classified
staff employees responded to the survey. Overall, a majority of those who responded were opposed to the Costco land development proposal. The results of the survey were mailed to Jerry Patterson, President of the Board of Trustees, and Wes Bryan, President of Golden West College.
It should be noted that the Executive Council of CFCE has not taken an official position on the Costco proposal. However,
we did want to provide a mechanism
for classified employees at Golden West College to provide feedback to the Board of Trustees regarding the Costco proposal since many of these employees have worked at Golden West College for several years and have very strong feelings regarding the future of the campus.
On December 6, Trustee Jerry Patterson
announced that he will be recommending
that the Coast Community College District governing board reject the Costco Proposal. Wes Bryan will make a full report to the Board of Trustees at the next Board of Trustees meeting on December 12th. |
