In addition to the medical, dental and vision insurance that the District offers as part of the employee’s benefit package, the District also offers several supplemental programs that might be of interest to CFCE members.
Life Insurance –Supplemental life insurance is available from three different companies: Affinity (up to $500,000), ING (up to $150,000), and American Fidelity. ING also has accidental death & dismemberment coverage, spouse/domestic partner life insurance, and dependent children coverage. ING has an open enrollment deadline of October 21, 2011. The open enrollment for American Fidelity will be in November 2011. All employees should be receiving information in the mail about American Fidelity offerings. Affinity life insurance can be activated at any time during the year.
Supplemental Medical Insurance – American Fidelity offers Medical Expense Reimbursement program that reimburses the subscriber for certain medical expense. American Fidelity also offers an Over-the-Counter Expenses program that reimburses the subscriber for certain over-the-counter (OTC) medicines.
Section 125 Plans – The Section 125 Plans allow the subscriber to deduct needed benefits from gross earnings before taxes are computed. This puts more money from each paycheck into the member’s pocket. American Fidelity and Affinity offer Section 125 Plans.
Cancer Insurance – American Fidelity also offers cancer insurance.
Hyatt Legal Plans – Hyatt Legal offers insurance to reimburse personal legal expenses, civil litigation, document review & preparation, debt collection defense, wills, family matters, and real estate matters.
Long-Term Care Insurance – UNUM offers long-term insurance and custodial care reimbursement. Members can activate one of Unum’s insurance programs at any time.
