COPECOPE is an acronym for the Committee on Political Education. The goal of COPE is to raise money through voluntary contributions that can be used so support targeted politcal campaigns or state propositions. Normally, money for the COPE fund is raise through a payroll deduction, where individuals have decided that they want to be active in the political life of the local.

The purpose of COPE is to have a source of funds that are separate from the Union's general fund so that there are no conflicts with how the monies in COPE are spent.

COPE has a committee that currently consists of members of the Executive Council. This committee decides how funds in the COPE account will be spent.

COPE buttonA large COPE fund gives CFCE political clout in the political arena. This can be particularly important when the Union has decided to support certain Board of Trustees candiates running for the Coast Community College District. This is probably the most tanglible way in which COPE can make a difference in the working conditions on campus.

If you are interested in making a monthly contribution to COPE, please contact the union office at (714) 432-5179.
