VETERANS DAY EVENT, NOVEMBER 11, 2016

OC FAIR & EVENT CENTER, 88 FAIR DRIVE, COSTA MESA

10:30 A.M. TO 2:00 P.M.

Three years ago, you and your brothers and sisters in the Labor movement stood together to right a wrong. Our military men and women were not being recognized for their service and sacrifice on behalf of our country. Saying "thank you" to our veterans is one of the reasons the "Veterans + Labor: Partners in Service" initiative was launched in 2013. That first year and the years that followed, we completed service projects and held free community celebrations in Orange County to honor veterans and active servicemen and women.

VETERANS DAY DETAILS: This is a free community event to thank and honor our military men and women and provide meaningful resources, free food and entertainment for the whole family.  We are expecting thousands of people on November 11th.  Here’s what we have lined up:

ENTERTAINMENT: Live music and dancing from the Swing Cats (10-piece band) decked out in military uniform and playing the big band music.  Rock n’ Roll takes over at noon for more dancing and fun.

BOOTHS: More than 70 booths offering veterans a huge array of services including job placement and recruiting, counseling, free health screenings and much more.  There will be a variety of military vehicles to view.  Kids will have lots of fun with face painting, playing in a bounce house and they can make a thank you card for a veteran.

HEREOES HALL VETERANS MUSEUM DEDICATION: Celebrate the dedication of Orange County’s first museum honoring veterans and their stories of valor and sacrifice. The special dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony takes place at 1:00 p.m.   Seating is on a first come, first served basis beginning at 12:30 p.m.

FOOD DRIVE: Please bring your non-perishable food donations to the event!  Last year, we collected tons of food for our former military men and women.

FOOD: Free hot dogs, chips and water for all plus discounted food and drink concessions from Spectra.

PARKING:  Parking is free for the Veterans Day event.  Please enter Gate 3 or 4.

WHEN: November 11, 2016, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE: OC Fair & Event Center, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa.

FREE PARKING: Enter Gate 3 off of Fairview or Gate 4 off of Arlington, Costa Mesa.

CONTACT:  Cathy Yatch, 714-835-3355, cyatch@oceamember.org.

Other activities include:

SPECIAL PRESENTATION: Community unveiling of U.S. Postal Service commemorative stamps depicting the Distinguished Service medals of all four branches of our country’s armed forces. The ceremony takes place at 11:30 am (the Navy Cross covers the Marine Corps).

Veterans + Labor: Partners in Service was launched in 2013. Far too often, our nation’s veterans don’t receive the support they’ve earned or the services they need when returning home. California’s labor unions are taking the lead to change that. On Veterans Day, workers are bringing the community together to say “thank you” to our nation’s heroes.
